This was my second attempt at Burning Bright, expanding on what I did back in 2016 and giving it more structure. Gypsy had passed away by this point in time, and so this song was much still on my mind. It seemed like the most appropriate way to end my EP.
lyrics
Ever since the day that we had first met
You always had that extra bounce in your step
Never knowing which way life would take us
Seeing this is one of my deepest cuts
Heavy panting, aimless running around
Random bursts of energy are found
You barrel through the house
It breaks my heart since I had
Watched you grow and was there from the start
You're burning bright
Brighter than I ever wanted to see you burn
You're burning to the point of no return
It brings a tear to my eye
You'll soon be lighting up the sky
And burning bright
I'd complain that there's a lump in my throat
But how can I when there's dozens on your coat?
One would think it brings a smile to my face
To see you bounce and jump all over the place
Not one bit
Your hearing's gone, can barely even see
Sometimes I wonder if you even notice me
I kneel down and look into your blank stare
Because I want to believe that you're still in there
Somewhere
You're burning bright
Brighter than I ever wanted to see you burn
You're burning to the point of no return
It brings a tear to my eye
You'll soon be lighting up the sky
And burning bright
Telling you how much I love you
Does no good
You know I'd take it all away
If only I could
I pray that this is all just
A second wind
But deep down I know
We're getting closer to the end
You're burning bright
Brighter than I ever wanted to see you burn
You're burning to the point of no return
It brings a tear to my eye
You'll soon be lighting up the sky
A truth I cannot deny
Because you're burning bright
You're burning bright
You're burning bright
You're burning bright
Somewhere
